Diablo IV Confirmed as Online-Only - briefly

Blizzard has confirmed that Diablo 4 will not have an offline mode. Speaking during a panel held at BlizzCon 2019, lead designer Angela Del Priore addressed a question about whether the game can be played solo and whether it will support "a full offline mode."

"We are not going to support an offline mode," Del Priore replied. "But as I said before, nothing in DIablo 4 is going to require partying up. You can play solo and dungeons are private. Campain quest areas will [also] remain private."

So although you will need an internet connection for the game to work, you can still play solo if you don’t want to group up with people. Players who are already familiar with the franchise likely won’t be bothered by this, as the exact same structure has been in place in Diablo 3 for seven years. However, newcomers may not be aware of the fact that online play isn’t mutually exclusive from solo play, and may be deterred from playing if that isn’t made explicitly clear.

I admit Diablo 4 looks good but the Live Service stuff negates anything that is positive :( Why can't they add a real offline mode after a years time to customers, imagine that?

This is so stupid. Singleplayer games that are forced online is the stupidest thing ever. For me it started with Hitman on PS4, then Just Cause 3, and so on. Singleplayer games SHOULD ALWAYS be playable offline. There is absolutely NO good reason to have a singleplayer game online. No sale for me.

You guys are playing dumb. The online part is obviously due to protection reasons. Diablo 3 never got cracked. Once they make it offline, boom someone will grab the data and will start acracking.

actually, since Diablo 2, Blizzard didn't have an offline game. Ever. All their games require connection to be ON. Yes, at some point even Starcraft needed blizzard launcher to be online (expansions).
And all of you are always on anyways.

Diablo 3 did get cracked. What they found was, it has no loot, no anything. So they made their pirate server. And it sucked ballz. And they got sued and some even arrested. It was 7 years ago, I might not got everything right...

in 2019 i don't give a fart about online/offline. I dont have a pc that is ever offline anyway. Diablo 3 wasn't offline, so why would diablo 4, which sounds more like an mmo to me. In fact it sounds a bit like a copy/paste of guildwars 2, with a diablo skin and topdown view.
