TechNews - AMD Radeon VII: RTX Killer or Flop? - tech|
(hx) 11:24 PM CET - Feb,08 2019 |
- Best CPUs for Gaming: Q1 2019 - Today they recommend the
AMD Ryzen 7 2700 and Intel Core i5-9600K.
- Cache, from History to the Future of CPU Memory - A look back
to the early days of cache-less computing, to what's coming next
with Zen 2.
- Intel Xeon W-3175X unboxed and tested vs Threadripper 2 - Gordon
has been pounding away at his review of
the 28-core Intel Xeon W-3175X - and while it isn't quite the
Threadripper killer, damn it gets close. First we unbox it, then we go
over the benchmarking results.
- The most EXPENSIVE CPU I've EVER delidded! - Man that
thing is a toaster!
- The AMD Radeon VII Review: An Unexpected Shot At The High-End -
Overall then, the Radeon VII puts its best foot forward when it offers
itself as a high-VRAM prosumer card for gaming content creators. And at
its $699 price point, that's not a bad place to occupy. However for
pure gamers, it's a little too difficult to suggest this card
instead
of NVIDIA's better performing GeForce RTX 2080.
- AMD Radeon VII 16GB Review: A Surprise Attack on GeForce RTX
2080 - Performance slightly lags GeForce RTX 2080 at same
price
- Radeon VII Faster Than My RTX2080? - AMD Radeon 7
performance numbers have leaked so I compared them to my Nvidia
RTX2080 to see which GPU is faster!
- AMD Radeon VII Review: RTX Killer or Flop? - It's worth
mentioning that AMD is offering an attractive game bundle with free
copies of the Resident Evil 2 remake, The Division 2, and Devil May
Cry 5 shipping with every Radeon VII card. Though it's hard to compare
with other bundles since these change all the time, it's a good one AMD
is offering at launch.
- Radeon VII Priced 739 euro in the EU, France and Spain Only
Have Dozens of Cards - Hot on the heels of our earlier report of
there being just 100 Radeon
VII graphics cards in stock to sell in the UK, we're hearing from
French tech publication Cowcotland of an even worse situation in the
Old Continent. Apparently, there are only 20 cards allocated to France
and Spain, each. The price Cowcotland reports for the card is 739€
(including VAT), although paucity of cards could allow retailers to
price the card just about anything, if there is demand for them. AMD
has not given retailers in Europe inventory replenishment dates.
Factories in China are down for the Lunar New Year holiday there, and
depending on demand, another production run could be underway only by
mid-thru-Late February, with fresh stocks reaching Europe only a month
after.
- Buildzoid Analyzes the PCB and VRM Layout of the AMD Radeon
VII - AMD's Radeon VII card left its initial embargo and that allowed us to look closer at the VRM for analysis.
- Der8auer Tries to Overclock Radeon VII - German overclocker Der8auer got his hands on a Radeon
VII to see how much extra performance he could squeeze out of it, but
apparently, there are some major issues in the review drivers
and/or firmware for the Radeon VII. Any kind of manual overclock,
however minor it may be, seems to drastically reduce performance, yet
an auto overclock via Wattman sees some real performance gains
- GTX 1660 TI Show Up On Russian Retailers - TweakTown's AIB source "confirmed" that the "the
GTX 1660 Ti is coming, and it isn't far away." Meanwhile, Videocardz managed to find some Russian retailers
that are already listing the GTX 1660 TI, though the Russian prices are
well above where the GTX 1660 TI was previously rumored to land.
- NVIDIA Lied about Its Cryptocurrency Earnings to Avoid Stock
Crash - In its recent earnings report, NVIDIA says it generated
around $602 million in crypto-related sales. Not so, says Royal Bank of
Canada capital market analyst Mitch Steves, who did some math and
claims the actual number is closer to $1.95 billion.
While the figure isn't something he can definitively prove, AMD's
earnings report lends credence to the theory ($234M/25% vs. NVIDIA's hypothetical $1.95B/75%, with
total crypto revenue being $2.75B). Some presume NVIDIA is
concealing revenue in a desperate attempt to smooth over their stock
troubles.
- Major Shareholder Abandons Nvidia After Disappointing Year - In
a report via PCGamesN, Japanese Investment
company Softbank has officially sold off their entire stock in the
company. An investor who was believed to be the graphics card giants
4th largest private investor. It should be noted, for the sake of
fairness, that the company had been for well over a year scaling back
their investment in Nvidia. With the recent downturn in the company
though, and the significant hit to the share price, Softbank is
believed to have lost around £2.7bn. To put the share price drop into
context we would need to give you some figures. The current Nvidia
share price is around $155. In late 2017, however, this was around
$290. With a near 50% drop in around 12-months is pretty shocking by
any standard.
- Microsoft Makes Final Push to Rid World of Internet Explorer
10 - Microsoft is attempting to terminate Internet Explorer 10 by January 2020.
"After this, we will not release any security or non-security updates,
free or paid assisted support options, or online technical content
changes for IE10." Users are advised to switch to IE11, which will be
available for Windows Server 2012 and Windows Embedded 8 Standard for
the first time later this year. Microsoft assures customers that IE10
will continue to get updates through the Windows Update Catalog and
WSUS as a 'Cumulative Update for Internet Explorer 10'. The browser
will also continue to get updates in the Monthly Rollup. Microsoft also
notes that IE11 for Windows Server 2012 and Windows Embedded 8 Standard
will only be available in the 'classic' desktop IE experience, meaning
the tiled experience will not be supported for these versions of
Windows.
- Firefox 66 to Block Audible Sound from Autoplay
Video&Audio - Mozilla has announced that Firefox 66 will automatically block audible audio
and video initiated by autoplay media on websites. As this is the
default behavior for Firefox 66, users will have to interact with the
website to initiate the audio such as hitting the "Play" button.
Firefox users will be able to override this behavior by clicking on an
icon in the URL bar and changing the settings for individual websites.
Firefox for Android will incorporate the same behavior as the desktop
version. Firefox 66 has a scheduled release date of March 19, 2019.
- macOS Mojave contains a major flaw that can reveal passwords -
Security researcher Linus Henze posted a video to his YouTube channel
allegedly demonstrating a zero-day exploit he discovered in macOS
Mojave, but he is not sharing details with Apple out of protest.
- Apple Fixes Zero-Day Exploits with Release of iOS 12.1.4 - Apple has released iOS
12.1.4 and it fixes two zero-day exploits that had been abused by
hackers. According to Google Project Zero team lead, Ben Hawkes, "CVE-2019-7286 and CVE-2019-7287 were
exploited in the wild as 0day." CVE-2019-7286 allowed hackers to gain
elevated privileges by using a malicious app to exploit a memory
corruption bug. CVE-2019-7287 allowed a malicious app to exploit a
memory corruption bug to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges.
Apple credited multiple Google members for reporting the exploits.
- Phones with 1TB Storage Coming Thanks to New Samsung Chip - Samsung
has a new storage chip for phones that can hold twice as much data in
the same space as last year's chip, and enables faster data access. The
new embedded Universal Flash Storage (eUFS) 2.1 chip can store 1 TB
(1,000 GB) of data, in the same size as Samsung's 512 GB eUFS chip
introduced in late 2017. 1 TB is enough for over 43 hours of 4K video.
The new chip is also up to 38% faster at reading data, and up to 25%
faster at writing, compared to Samsung's 512 GB chip. eUFS chips
provide internal storage for phones, which is distinct from RAM and
removable memory cards. If the past is any indication, Samsung will
likely use the chip in its next flagship phone, the Galaxy S 10, which
is slated to be announced on February 20th.
- Hands On with the Moto g7 Series - Moto's new g-series phones bring up-to-date features,
upgraded specs, and clean Google software to three models ranging
from $200 to $300. This year's series moves to a notched-screen design,
steps up to a Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 processor, and supports USB-C
across the board. They will all launch with Android 9 (Pie). All three
will eventually come to US carriers, most by this spring.
- iPhone XR And iPhone XS Chinese Sales Soar After Apple Slashes
- Apple has had a particularly hard road in China where its
high-prices are sending consumers to Chinese brands like Huawei and
Xiaomi, but Apple is not lying down in the Chinese market without a
fight. The company has slashed the price of iPhone models in China, and
unsurprisingly, sales have grown for the device. Reports indicate that
after Apple cut the price on the iPhone XR, XS, XS Max, and on several
older iPhones, sales are up. Price cuts landed for third-party
distributors in China on January 10. Price cuts allowed Chinese vendors
to save on the purchase price from Apple, and lower the prices they are
offering consumers. Not long after Apple dropped the prices, the iPhone
XR was on sale online in China for 6099 yuan, which is about $899.
Apple sells the iPhone XR directly in China via its stores for $958.
Data sourced from Alibaba alleges that since the price cuts were made,
sales on its website have increased 76%; other online sites are
reporting similar sales booms after price cuts. Suning, for example, claims
that since Apple cut prices, its sales have grown by 83%. The price
cuts were in response to slowing iPhone sales in China, which is a
crucial market for vendors as much of the rest of the world is seeing
smartphone sales decline. Apple CEO Tim Cook had stated previously that
the company was returning to prices similar to last year in some
international markets to boost sales; it appears the tactic has worked
in China.
- Google Nukes 29 Malicious Android Apps - Google
has removed over two dozen malicious Android apps from the Play
Store that were collectively downloaded millions of times. The apps,
which went to great lengths to appear legitimate, sent users
pornographic content, redirected them to phishing websites, and
collected photos under the guise of applying filters to them. The three
most downloaded of the bunch were camera apps, and specifically Pro
Camera Beauty, Cartoon Art Photo, and Emoji Camera. Each one notched
over 1 million downloads. Several others were downloaded hundreds of
thousands of times, such as Artistic Effect Filter, which racked up
over half a million downloads.
- Nutaku Announces World's First Boob-Shaped Console for Adult
Gaming - Adult gaming platform Nutaku, best known for its vast
library of hentai titles, has released its first piece of hardware: a
breast-shaped, plug-and-play game console featuring more than 200
free-to-play and premium adult games. It's already sold out, but
perverts waiting on new stock can check out a making-of video in the
meantime, which explains how the company made a console with a "flesh-like feel" and "nipple-shaped power button.".
Turning on the console is pretty straight-forward. You just got to
press the nipple. The "boob" is created out of silicone to give it an
authentic feel when touched. But it's pretty cool because it comes with
two USB ports, one HDMI port, an audio jack and a wireless internet
connection. Certainly the perfect console for those who love adult
gaming. Priced at US$169, the console comes in limited quantities.
- The Factory Flawed Air Jordans Worth $143,000 - Andrea
Canziani has the sole pair of a factory defected Nike Air Jordan 1.
The defect? An upside down swoosh on the left sneaker. The price tag:
nearly $150,000. An error that would seem trivial to most has become a
phenomenon in the sneaker world.
- Toyota Finally Embraces Android Auto and CarPlay - After
holding out longer than most auto makers, Toyota's new 2020
lineup includes, for the first time, a variety of models that support
both Apple CarPlay and Google's Android Auto. The new models
include
the 2020 4Runner, Sequoia, Tacoma, and Tundra. Last year's Avalon
supported CarPlay, but not Android Auto. The two technologies are
comparable, letting the driver sync their phone to the car and display
an interface on the dash touchscreen that's driven by the phone, and
includes voice control. The interfaces are tailored to driving, with a
focus on navigation, music, and basic communication. Other car
companies already supporting both CarPlay and Android Auto are:
Chrysler (and Dodge, Fiat, Jeep, Ram), Ford (and Lincoln), GM (Buick,
Cadillac, Chevy, GMC), Honda (and Acura), Hyundai (and Kia), Jaguar,
Land Rover, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, VW (and
Audi), and Volvo.
- Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw - Official
Trailer [HD] - After eight films that have amassed almost $5
billion worldwide, the Fast & Furious franchise now features its
first stand-alone vehicle as Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham
reprise their roles as Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw in Fast &
Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw.
Ever since hulking lawman Hobbs (Johnson), a loyal agent of America's
Diplomatic Security Service, and lawless outcast Shaw (Statham), a
former British military elite operative, first faced off in 2015's
Furious 7, the duo have swapped smack talk and body blows as they've
tried to take each other down.
But when cyber-genetically enhanced anarchist Brixton (Idris Elba)
gains control of an insidious bio-threat that could alter humanity
forever - and bests a brilliant and fearless rogue MI6 agent (The
Crown's Vanessa Kirby), who just happens to be Shaw's sister - these
two sworn enemies will have to partner up to bring down the only guy
who might be badder than themselves.
Hobbs & Shaw blasts open a new door in the Fast universe as it
hurtles action across the globe, from Los Angeles to London and from
the toxic wasteland of Chernobyl to the lush beauty of Samoa.
- What We Do in the Shadows Season 1 Trailer - Set in New York City, What We Do in the Shadows
follows three vampires who have been roommates for hundreds and
hundreds of years
- DUMBO Trailer 3 (2019) - Circus owner Max Medici (Danny
DeVito) enlists former star Holt Farrier (Colin Farrell) and his
children Milly (Nico Parker) and Joe (Finley Hobbins) to care for a
newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughingstock in an
already struggling circus. But when they discover that Dumbo can fly,
the circus makes an incredible comeback, attracting persuasive
entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere (Michael Keaton), who recruits the peculiar
pachyderm for his newest, larger-than-life entertainment venture, Dreamland. Dumbo soars to new heights alongside a
charming and spectacular aerial artist, Colette Marchant (Eva
Green), until Holt learns that beneath its shiny veneer, Dreamland is
full of dark secrets.
- Sci-Fi Short Film "A Date in 2025" - AI: "You couldn't afford the upgrade" lol!
- SHAFT Trailer (2019) - This second sequel/reboot of the "Shaft" series
will focus on the son of Samuel L. Jackson's John Shaft from the 2000
film and will again see Richard Roundtree reprising his role of
Jackson's character's uncle from the original 1971 film.
- Marvel Studios' Avengers: Endgame - Big Game TV Spot - Today,
during the Big Game, fans got an exciting new look at Marvel Studios'
AVENGERS: ENDGAME.
AVENGERS: ENDGAME opens in U.S. theaters on April 26, 2019.

What anyone says does not matter.
Will they be sued for stock manipulation or not?
quote: Major Shareholder Abandons Nvidia After Disappointing Year
Well, yes. Same thing happened to Nokia.
You can make the best product there is year over year, but if the analysts get paid to push down your stock prices, then you are fucked.
quote: Microsoft Makes Final Push to Rid World of Internet Explorer 10
Yeah, well, you should not have made it part of the OS, lol
One would think that you would finally be learning the lesson that's been pitched to you over the last decade: an OS is an OS, let it be just that.
The more crap you build in, the more crap you will have to deal with later.
Why would you go and do the same to WinDOS 10 is beyond me.
Seems you are not a learning organization.
quote: Firefox 66 to Block Audible Sound from Autoplay Video&Audio
Yeah, cool, but who gives a fuck, really when you still can't upgrade without losing your favourite extensions -> still forced to use Firefox 52.
I guess when I make the jump, it won't be Firefox anymore (which is too bad).
