Next-Gen Tablets Will Have Console-Quality Graphics - tech
(hx) 11:01 AM EDT - Jul,08 2013
According to Electronic Arts' Frank Gibeau, graphics on mobile platforms such as smartphones and tablets, will rival those of consoles in the very near future.
In the near future, the next wave of tablets and phones will have nearly Xbox 360 or PS3 capabilities in terms of graphics," Gibeau said. "Some of our engine technology that used to be console-specific now can, with modifications, be able to power games on tablets and on phones in the near future. We're just getting ready for that.
In May, EA announced Frostbite Go, a mobile version of its Frosbite engine designed for use with iOS and Android.

Who cares EA, it's going to be microtransaction hell like all your other mobile games anyway.

Bah! Forecasted a while ago: Smartphones, Phablets, and Tablets will eventually take over PCs and consoles in the next 5-7 years the way the trend is going. Its natural to evolve all-in-one tech so it incorporates almost all solutions into one form factor. Some of the recent games even for Android and IShiet are somewhat decent but yeah need a few years to get close to a mid-high PC rig or XBONE/PS4. Its coming.. its inevitable..

"World of Warcraft" Tests Microtransactions, Pay to Win real money.

It's going to be standardised on all platforms. SP is getting killed off and or more focused on FTP. Just the level of today's generation of gamer. Want to buy experience and ego....so friggin sad.

EA sucks just like Sony sucks.

Console quality, huh?
I suppose that's all right for kids.
Kids don't have money though, so I wonder what's the business model here.
PCs are still better for kids because they can upgrade individual parts whenever they get the budget needed.
For younger kids, consoles are ok - they're more idiot-proof in general.

Bunch of horse shit from this guy. Mobile is a market and will likely still be one but for specific games and older ones via emulators (snes nes sega gamecube etc.). That's it and it's unlikely to break that mold due to input limitations.

This is a dangerous time for consoles because PC gets more and more cost effective as time goes on. Currently it's cheaper to buy or build a PC that supports your gaming habit and use a service Steam and various other websites. Notice they recently stated they will be charging the same price in the India region for titles since key website resellers have become ever more popular.

There's no reason to have a console these days as you can play your console games via the PC with a pad and have it be your HTPC at the same time. Price isn't an issue these days as it was arguable that it was back when the 360 and ps3 were new.
