(hx) 06:31 PM EDT - Apr,18 2013
  • Panasonic's 20-inch Windows 8 tablet to have 3840x2560 resolution - In a post on its Extreme Windows blog, the company said it showed off the Panasonic tablet as part of last week's National Association of Broadcasters. The blog revealed that the actual resolution of the tablet will be 3840x2560, which is actually slightly larger than the normal 4K resolution of 3840x2160. The blog also said the aspect ratio of the tablet will be 15x10. The blog's author says that he got a chance to play with the Panasonic tablet and claimed that he was surprised at how thin and light it was, despite its 20-inch size, adding, "I would consider it to be a very thin if it were just a display with no PC inside!" There's an image that shows one side of the tablet, which indeed makes the tablet look rather slim
  • Windows 8.1 build 9369 includes ReFS support -What is ReFS? Well, it's a file system that made its debut back in 2012 and builds upon NTFS. The platform brings enhanced support for large volumes and improved reliability for on-disk structures. In addition, the platform ties into existing APIs and "ReFS supports existing Windows and NTFS features such as BitLocker encryption, Access Control Lists, USN Journal, change notifications". While this change will not bring many noticeable improvements to the end user, it's an enhancement to the underlying technology that will deliver improved stability and performance which the end user can appreciate.
  • Metro: Last Light Now Bundled With GeForce GTX Cards - NVIDIA just announced that it will be bundling Metro: Last Light with its GeForce GTX graphics cards.
  • Google reveals Glass specs - one-day battery life - Google has finally published a list of technical specifications for the head-mounted device. Glass features a 640 x 360 display that Google says is the "equivalent of a 25 inch high definition screen from eight feet away," a 5-megapixel camera capable of 720p video, and - as revealed in an FCC filing - audio that comes via a bone conduction transducer. There will be 16GB of flash storage on-board, with 12GB actually usable, and it will sync with "Google cloud storage" - presumably Google Drive. Glass will feature adjustable nose pads in a frame that Google says will "fit any face," and you'll get extra pads in two sizes. As for battery life, Google claims Glass will last up to "one full day of typical use," though notes that certain applications such as video recording and Hangouts will have a greater impact on endurance. While Glass charges over a Micro USB connector, Google encourages owners to use the packed-in USB cable for a "long and prosperous" life. Connectivity-wise, Glass supports 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and is compatible with "any Bluetooth-capable phone," though functionality will vary. The list of specifications also mentions an app called "MyGlass" for phones with Android 4.0.3 and above; this will enable GPS and SMS support. Some of these details were known from our extensive first-hand preview of Google Glass, but we now have more solid information on what exactly to expect from those first units rolling off the production line.
  • These Are the First Videos Being Shot With Google Glass - As you can see, the quality is pretty good, and that shouldn't be surprising considering the camera shoots in 720p. Granted, it's not going to look perfect if you blow it up to full screen, but it's a damn sight better than strapping a webcam to your head or something.
  • Google will deactivate Glasses if you loan them to friends - So you've got your early Explorer Edition Google Glass, but what happens when you get bored of them? Well, if you were thinking of selling them or handing them over to a friend, Google has made sure to stop you in your tracks. In its lengthy terms of service, the company lays out rules against reselling or lending its new specs out without express permission.
  • Outlook.com to add alias support and new international domains - Microsoft confirmed that it will begin rolling out alias support for Outlook.com. The blog also confirmed that Outlook.com will soon support two step authentication, which was reported earlier today. Finally, Microsoft announced that it will add support for support for 32 new international email address domains for Outlook.com users, in order for international users to have an email address that reflects the country they come from. The supported countries include Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Israel, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Hungary, Japan, Korea, Latvia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Peru, Philippines, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Slovakia, Spain, Thailand, Turkey and Vietnam. Again, this support will be rolled out over the next several days.

The GS4 will be available at Sprint stores beginning April 27 and will cost $249.99 with a new line of service or eligible upgrade. Sprint is offering a $100 discount on the GS4's price to new customers who switch their number from a different carrier, which drops the out-of-pocket cost to $149.99. Who'd carry around a 20 inch tablet?

That's not going to sell it.

I guess people will now realize that it's more of a tech demo - a proof of concept if you like - than a useful product.

Yes, such inferior resolutions are available in everywhere nowadays from the dumbest smartphone to the dumbest camera.

Google will deactivate Glasses if you loan them to friends

Of course as it would render all the data Google mines absolutely useless. But no worries: loaning them to friends requires buying one - which is not going to happen.

I am an outlook.com user but I don't see how that's important...

No danger of getting one of these, either.

Ditto.

I guess legitimate users will be harassed just the same without any sort of compensation for their trouble.

Your average smart phone is also a tech demo rather than a useful product by that standard.

On the contrary. It's a phone so you can make calls with it and you can be called whereever you are.
