TechNews - 3-D Internet Will Arrive In Five Years - tech|
(hx) 11:26 AM CEST - Apr,12 2010 |
- Core i7 920 to EOL in Q2 2010 - Fudzilla reports
that Intel will officially end production of the Core i7-920 during
this quarter. The 920 was essentially replaced by the Core i7-930 last
month. It runs at 2.8GHz with 8MB of L3 cache and 4.8 GT/sec QPI
interface. Intel's list price is $294, $10 more than the Core i7-920.
- Intel to Ship Samples of Experimental 48-core
Processor - If this article is correct, sample
48-core processors will be shipped to researchers by the end of the
second quarter of this year.
- GIGABYTE Radeon HD 5830 1GB Video Card Tested -
Love it or hate it, the HD 5830 is here to stay and
some may feel that it's a better option over something like a HD 5770
because ATI tend to focus on adding performance to their higher end
models. With the HD 5830 falling in the HD 5800 series range, one would
hope that it may see more of a performance bump than models in the HD
5700 series. The models are beginning to come in thick and fast and
we've got a couple here from a few different companies. The first one
we'll be looking at today comes from GIGABYTE and carries with it quite
a mean looking coole
- Western Digital VelociRaptor 600GB SATA 6Gbps HDD
Tested - The VelociRaptor series is an enthusiast class
product and is ideal for those PC users who don't want to jump
into the SSD
market right now. The new 450GB and 600GB VelociRaptors would also make
for great secondary storage drives to those that have an SSD as their
primary storage drive.
- Benchmark Performance SSD Testing: AHCI vs IDE - Benchmark
Reviews compared the SSD performance of
AHCI and IDE. Unfortunately, benchmarking SSD speeds will only reveals
how fast data can be read-from or written-to; it doesn't reveal how
many pieces of data can be used in that process. More important than
bandwidth speed is an SSDs operational performance, measured in IOPS.
Unquestionably, the best operational IOPS performance between AHCI and
IDE configurations was IDE-mode. IOPS results were always more
consistent and usually much higher when the SATA controller was set to
IDE-mode instead of AHCI..
- Samsung N210 Netbook Review - PureOverclock
posted a review of the Samsung N210 Netbook,
which is very similar to the majority of the current netbooks on the
market, based on the Intel Atom N450 processor and offering limited
upgrades. While there isn't much in terms of computing power increase
on the CPU, the advantage here is that lower power consumption is
offered, which results in a longer battery life.
- Early Windows 7 SP1 build leaks - The build,
6.1.7601.16537.amd64fre.win7.100327-0053,
appears to be a recent compile from March 27. Early reports, from
enthusiast site GeekSmack, indicate the build is quick to install but
it's not clear whether it includes the promised USB 3.0 support or
enhanced Bluetooth and Wi-fi stacks.
- 10 Reasons Why You Shouldn't Wait for Windows 7
SP1 - In the past, waiting until a service pack was released
was typically the best move when it came to Windows. Windows XP was
substantially improved when Microsoft delivered the first service pack.
Windows Vista enjoyed similar results when its service pack was
released. But Windows 7 is a different story altogether.
It doesn't have the kind of issues that XP and Vista did when they
first hit store shelves. Simply put, users who are on the fence about
Windows 7 shouldn't wait for Service Pack 1
- Flash CS5 will export to HTML5 Canvas - Flash
CS5 will allow for Flash developers to export their old and new animations directly
into HTML5 Canvas code to paste onto their websites. This
will enable users with HTML5 supported browsers to experience Flash
animations without the need for Flash installed. So this will save the
Flash as a method of making animations but will help kill flash as a
plugin.
- TweetUp: New search engine for tweets, Twitter - Jets
acquire WR Holmes from Steelers 04.11.10 Veteran technology
entrepreneur Bill Gross today is launching a new startup that hopes to make money
from Twitter's unbridled stream of 600 tweets per second.
- Intel Guru Says 3-D Internet Will Arrive In Five
Years - A technology guru at Intel Corp. predict that the
internet will look significantly different in five to 10 years,
when much of it will be three dimensional, or 3D. Sean Koehl, a
technology evangelist with Intel Labs, said technology is emerging that
will one day change the way we interact with electronic devices and
with each other. That could come as soon as five years from now when,
he predicted, there will be realistic-looking three-dimensional
applications.
- iPhone OS 4.0 Multitasking tool bar teaser video
- This is the first video found showing the
iPhone OS 4.0 multitasking between applications. Check out
the mini icon bar on the bottom. The ALT+TAB has arrived iPhone owners,
and you only have to 'wait till the summer' to get in on the action.
Shown is the 3GS developer's beta, did ya only wish you were a
developer now? Along with Fast app switching, Background audio is
going, VoIP, Background location, Push notifications, Local
notifications, Task completion are added to the list of multitasking
features.
- iPad Components Cost $259 - Apple's
(AAPL) iPad tablet computer costs
as little as $259.60 to build,
according to analysis by the research firm iSuppli. Materials for the
iPad, which went on sale Apr. 3, include a touchscreen display that
costs $95 and a $26.80 processor designed by Apple and manufactured by
Samsung Electronics, according to El Segundo (Calif.)-based iSuppli.
- Apple reveals iPhone OS 4.0 + walktrough - With
the release
of the iPhone OS 4.0 beta, many are keen to get their hands on a copy.
Unfortunately, not everybody that wants to can do so due to a number of
reasons, but thankfully, some developers
are willing to provide screenshots of all the new features
and additions:
- Mitsubishi Announces 82inch Home Theater 3D TV - Mitsubishi
Digital Electronics America is showcasing its 82 inch Home Theater TV, the
world's largest mass production 3D-Ready1 television available. With
almost four times the viewing area of a small screen 42-inch flat panel
TV, the 82-inch Mitsubishi 3D-Ready Home Theater TV provides a high
quality, cinema-like, large screen 3D experience.
- Remove Scratches from a CD/DVD with Vaseline
(Petroleum Jelly) - Vaseline
(Petroleum Jelly) can be used for chapped lips, dry skin, and
for getting rid of head lice; but how about making CDs and DVDs
readable again? Well, it does that too. There are also other ways to do
this on the Instructables website, but this guide will show you the one
that I believe works best.
- First Trailer for Jay Roach's Dinner for Schmucks
- Paramount has finally debuted the
first trailer
for Austin Power director Jay Roach's new comedy Dinner for Schmucks
which stars Steve Carell and Paul Rudd. Paramount is bringing Dinner
for Schmucks to theaters on July 23rd this summer.
- The Losers Trailer - Originally a
Special Forces team
seconded to the CIA in the 90s, the Losers were betrayed by their
handler, Max, and left for dead following the conclusion of their
operation. Eager for revenge and the opportunity to remove their names
from a secret CIA death list, the Losers regroup and conduct covert
operations against the CIA and its interests, uncovering startling
operations spearheaded by the enigmatic villain Max, whose influence
within the CIA and US government is unparalleled. The
Losers is directed by Sylvain White and will hit theaters on
April 16th next weekend.
- Teaser Trailer for Adam McKay's The Other Guys - Sony
has finally debuted the first teaser trailer (that
runs a full 2-1/2 minutes) for The Other Guys starring Will Ferrell and
Mark Wahlberg as a pair of misfit cops.
- New Full-Length Trailer for Ong Bak 3 - Here's
a brand new full-length trailer
for Tony Jaa's Ong Bak. I guess the fact that all 3 movies are called
Ong Bak is a little misleading, but understandable from a marketing
standpoint. The first Onk Bak was just about a dude with crazy skills
kicking people's ass in the city, while 2 and 3 seem to go the fantasy
route and are not connected to the first movie whatsoever. But the name
is familiar and will most likely attract an audience...What do you
think?
- Octopus vs. Sea Lion - First Ever Video - New
National Geographic Crittercam footage
shows never before seen eating habits
of the Australian sea lion - including video of a sea lion hunting a
large octopus. The footage is from a project intended to help save the
endangered sea lions, in part by uncovering where and how the animals
eat.

last 10 comments: th4t1guy | (03:37 PM CEST - Apr,12 2010 ) | Do NOT use petroleum jelly to clean your discs unless you want to fuck up the lense on your cd drive. Use a mild abrasive like Brasso or toothpaste instead.
Sabot | (06:14 PM CEST - Apr,12 2010 ) | I've never used Petroleum jelly -or vaseline- to clean a CD.
As you have said, Brasso is superb, leaves absolutely no residue -that a cloth can't remove and wont bugger up your drive. I've got cd's which can't even play working with Brasso again.
Why bother with the hassle of Vaseline??
Tom | (05:14 AM CEST - Apr,13 2010 ) | 3D Internet, gimme a break :P Hey Koogle, if this happens, I'll be able to smack you in 3D finally!
Ozieo | (04:36 AM CEST - Apr,14 2010 ) | Wow, smilies in 3D, I can hardly wait, and I always wanted to know how the letter H looks in 3D.
PoliticalMaestro | (10:31 PM CEST - Apr,14 2010 ) | Windows 7, i think i'll wait for the service pack, no rush for good things comes those who wait... plus it'll be slightly cheaper in a year or so.
