Microsoft Responds to Modern Warfare 2 Piracy - briefly|
| (hx) 07:07 PM CET - Nov,04 2009 | CGV has posted a statement from Microsoft following the news that leaked ISO's of both the PC and Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 are hitting torrent sites:
"Our commitment to combating piracy and support safer and more secure gameplay for the more than 20 million members of our Xbox Live community remains a top priority," said MS when we contacted it regarding the leak.
"All consumers should know that piracy is illegal and that modifying their Xbox 360 console to play pirated discs violates the Xbox Live terms of use, will void their warranty and result in a ban from Xbox Live. The health of the video game business depends on customers paying for the genuine products and services they receive from manufacturers, retailers, and the third parties that support them," added MS.
"We take vigorous action against illegal activity related to our products and services, but we do not comment on those details. Consumers should be aware that piracy is illegal and that modifying their Xbox 360 to play pirated games will void their warranty."
They've yet to invent a copy-protection scheme to prevent a worker at a duplication plant from slipping a disc into his coat pocket :-) |

| Penetreitor | (07:48 PM CET - Nov,04 2009 ) | Okay, I'll not buy a XBOX then...
Video games companies earns huge money (more than movie pictures), even with piracy.
Instead sell a game for $40, sell it for $5 and nobody will get pirated copies, and I can bet they will earn more money.

That's only a matter of time, video games are still in their puberty compared to the movie industry.
In movie-land, people have come to a stage that they refuse to longer swallow cheap brainless computer crap, dumping some robots in it, and over-animating the thing on their stupid computers, producing brainless, storyless, computerized shit, and expect, when they will put a slutty actrice in it, the people will love it. Those days are over, and Good GOD, it sure was getting time !
In about 10 years, people will start to refuse buying games that do not work as they should out-of-the-box, some already do now, but the numbers are negligible, in 10 years they will not.
On the other hand it's not all the producers fault, If I want to buy a particular console game in Belgium/France I have to spend €80 while In England I would spend €25.
It's all too easy to pinpoint piracy onto the end-user, it will keep on backfiring at them until they finally admit what the real problems are.
| ykazka | (09:30 PM CET - Nov,04 2009 ) | I like this game. A lot. You can call me stupid, but i will wait till its official release, i will buy it, and i will play. When a good game comes out-it deserves to be bought. Some shitty overmarketed crap - (one look at the game footage trailer is usually enough)- i won't even bother downloading a demo.
I think the devs deserve my money for this game--thank you, great work.
BUT--fuck you Microsoft!!! If i buy a car, a pc, an xbox--i can do whatever i want with it. Warranty? -- A new version of xbox will probably come out before the warranty expires anyway.
Microsoft - shame on you.
| Tom | (09:53 PM CET - Nov,04 2009 ) | People don't pirate games to hurt companies in first place. It's not their goal. People do it because it's fun, it's a hobby, it's a challenge.
Whether the game is $5 or not, piracy will always be around. Any company that uses piracy as an excuse for sales, clearly there are other problems with their product they don't want to accept or believe. People pirate applications that are shareware and are only $5, there's keygen's, replacement .exe, serials whatever.
Ya, some movies cost a lot but games do too. As an example GTA IV cost over $100 million. Paranormal Activity movie cost $15K to make, it's raked in over $100 million. Games typically cost 2/5/10 million to produce and a lot of the time this is just development costs, not marketing or publishing costs factored in.
I don't believe at all that that selling a game for $5 is going to stop piracy. That's just someone talking without knowing what they are talking about which seems to happen here a lot.
| sikapossu | (10:54 PM CET - Nov,04 2009 ) | | there is no pirate pc version out just xbox 360 version only | |
| sikapossu | (11:42 PM CET - Nov,04 2009 ) | | someone is sharing none working iso and there is no working crack even out | |

I'd disagree. People pirate for a number of reasons and for some it is just a matter of affordability or perceived value for money. The companies should spend less money fighting a losing battle (and pissing of their paying customers in the process) and instead focus on ways to win back those people who are less ardent pirates and more disillusioned customers.

its not surprising that these are the same retards who blame all game devs on the quality of their games, which makes it ok to steal.
Lets get this straight, if its buggy, and u dont like it, why are you stealing it? Ops...yea thats right, to play it. Saying someone makes too much money for your tastes or that they dont put out games to your standards is about as reasonable as hitler's attempt at genocide.
Fact is, if u pirate, your a theif. Whatever excuses or justifications you may think you have is just your own poor attempt at making it OK to steal in your conceited mind. I know people that have been put out of business because of piracy, saying that the stuff they put out is crap but stealing it to play it sure is easy.

Why call you stupid? That's like saying, i bought FOOD at a shop today! NOT everyone goes through the day/life stealing.
It's those that steal software who are the idiots, simply because if they genuinely HATED that company they wouldn't want ANYTHING to do with them. Like wise -as you said- if you look forward to a product, you buy it and support them AND when you've finished with it actualy get money back on a trade-in on another game etc. All legit.

But that last bit lets you down, when you own a console (BEFORE you even BUY it) you already know it's terms and limitations. Soooo if you buy an egg box then your dealing with microshaft and it's wonderful guarantee, hardware -not! Piss them off and you get banned.
See i hate the living shit out of microshaft -my personal opinion AND choice. So i buy Sony; well i have two 46" and 32" LCD TVs and of course a PS3. I knew from the get go i could replace the HDD with MY OWN and any standard laptop HDD at that. Not some 'Official' M$ shit costing 3 times as much per mb. Oh and of course Sony PS3 MP is FREE, again i knew that.
What more could a GAMER ask for? And of course a home entertainment system built by the same company and i rent Blu-Ray movies/Games.
I know when i buy a game i get no strings attached -other than DLC, if i chose.
Oh and any company that doesn't support DLC for the PS3 until many months down the road or not at all because of agreements with M$ -GTA4/Fallout3 for eg, don't get my cash again and that makes me all warm inside lol
Your either in or out, but you can't be buying games then dissing the console manufacturer/publisher for defending their product; console/MW2 and terms because you use a chipped console or whatever to play pirate software
Sounds like 'the pot calling the kettle black'
| Penetreitor | (07:29 PM CET - Nov,05 2009 ) | Okay games for $5 couln't stop the piracy, but will reduce it considerably and make the companies earn more money for sure, mostly if they stop to waste money in those useless copy protection schemas.
Besides some pirated games runs better than the original ones, because the fking copy protection are ripped or disabled, and your computer is dedicated only to run the game, instead performing undesirable/hidden operations...

It doesn't make it okay to steal but your answer why they do it is right there and that is TOTALLY in the hands of the developers. If they want those pirates to become paying customers perhaps they should produce a better quality of product and stop fucking shirking all blame like their shit don't smell.
Piracy is not a one sided action. Potential customers who choose to pirate over buying do so because the game industry are not providing them with what they want. That might be quality, price, entertainment, value, delivery system, language support etc etc etc. The game industry is a greedy fat pig and I'm tired of it snorting towards the people who'd fed it for many years like their the cause for all their woes.

If the stuff they put out is crap that nobody would buy, complaining about people pirating it is moot. Put the morals and legalities aside to expand on this.
If a pirate in all certainty would never buy the game, then their act of piracy has ZERO effect on the developer.
You're arguments are flawed because you think the whole issue is one sided.

Tom you could probably do with a train falling on your head, it might knock those little nub brain cells of yours back into working order.
