| xxxx | (03:23 PM EST - Mar,13 2006 ) | quote: Q: I got no crosshairs, how am i supposed to hit anything ???
A: Red Orchestra - Ostfront doesn't feature Crosshairs, you are supposed to aim using Ironsights (aiming over the actual Weapon Sights). There is a Key bound to this function, press it and aim. The Weapon will start to sway over time, but this will still be more accurate then firing from the default position (called Hip shooting). Just note that you move very slowly while aiming with Ironsights (IS is the Abreavation), or not at all while prone.
Why is it someone takes a crosshair off a game they call it realistic? Taking a crosshair, I know I said it a million times, does no more than turn n00bs away from your game. The smarter players will get a crosshair hack. People can sit and make themselves believe everyone playing RO is playng without xhair, but I gave up dreaming that a long time ago. I use it and I couldn't care less what anyone has to say. Some other somewhat inferior crosshairs total close to 10,000 downloads.. 10,000 players.. ask yourself again.. how many do you think are playing the game without crosshairs? Ha.. realistic is only how it could be viewed. I haven't even mentioned the stickies you could use for a totally non-draining fps method..No crosshairs to me = n00b developers. Naive developers. These naive developers usually have a good following of naive community members. It's just like HL2 and cheats, there are so many in denial until you show them a video as you go on a VAC secure server recording your progress with FRAPS. Amazing how their perception changes after that.
| (03:38 PM EST - Mar,13 2006 ) | | Not really impressed with the lack of a crosshair, either... | |
| No.21 | (05:27 PM EST - Mar,13 2006 ) | Ehm...so its smarter to rely on cheats? Than your own skill? And of which of them do you learn more of? And what if that you learn from can be used in other games? There is a learning curve to it.
Now lets say Valve/VAC team takes their thumb out of their asses and picks up the cheat, what will happen to the one that uses it?
- Why is it someone takes a crosshair off a game they call it realistic?
* There is a difference between "more" realistic and realistic, and what is realism?
As with the ironsight, it is a part of the game and YOUR way of handling is part of it. Decision and risk taking. Hit maybe with the ironsights or miss without it or maybe hes close enough and you belive that you can take him out without the ironsights. Bringing more confidence over time on the decision making.
And what are you implying? That you cheat and its ok or someone should do it just becouse you disagree on the gameplay style?
| yessum | (12:56 PM EST - Mar,14 2006 ) | Iron sights, lack of crosshair all is fine in a single player game where you’re off against a loads of pointless ai villains. In an online game where half your skill is dependant on your ping and frames per second, using iron sights is all load of shit.
Not everyone has a top of the line machine that will run a game at a minimum 100 frames per second. Using iron sights at times lowers their adequate (30/50) frames per second into a measly 15-20. Visual lag occurs. Aiming with iron sights when the image in front of you is tearing is simply impossible. You end up dead, even though you saw the enemy first. O.o
Using iron sights in any game requires time for the gun sight to reach your eyes. In single player you can distance your self from the enemy and freely shoot, whereas in multiplayer it takes time and effort which a great ping could simply diminish and a lousy ping, extend.
See? Look at day of defeat source. The great deity, that is valve, went out of the box to create a superb, realistic experience. (hold the laughs please) the iron sights are crap, the new additions are total shit and if you’re familiar with the source engine… the net code… is like reaching into a vat of honey to get the cherry flavored lollipop at the bottom.
I’m against using iron sights in multiplayer games. It doesn’t add to the realism, it simply adds to the rubbish people go through. It’s not hard to spray and pray an automatic at someone trying at aim at you from a near distance.
If people really want realism why not just enlist? I thought the point of playing videogames is to escape the harsh realties we face on a daily basis.
But then again… valve should add iron sights into counter-strike source. I’d love to see such garbage in an action driven game. How much woe would people go through? Oh. It would add great lengths of realism. You can now aim at a randomly, out of place, placed barrel while holding a desert eagle only three inches from your face.
Don’t worry about the kickback. Look at the pretty barrel going down the hill. Oh, joy!
| No.21 | (03:21 PM EST - Mar,14 2006 ) | Ehm, so what you are writing is that you impose on that the part of the game characteristic should suffer just becouse of FPS?
And is it really that big of an impact on the FPS? Does it always give less FPS? I wonder, i might as well do that most of the time at the expense of "some" FPS. But the other hand, it might give some FPS sometimes. As i am thinking of FOV, Depth, Texture, Model etc.
Does it really create some extra overhead, so it really does have a big impact on the lag? I wouldn't think so. But then again i am not a programmer or network engineer. Or read any deeper on the subject.
Uff, you forgot "Bullet Spread". Accuracy, precision and/or whatever attribute that affects your/the aiming/killing, alike and whatever.
Look at the CoD series. Guess it worked there, but with Crosshair and Ironsight. Having different handling, and how you take and choose of action is up to you, and whether it is success or failure is up to your way of handling. And there is many dependencies on that and outcome.
Choice of preference. | |
