TechNews - Samsung's Galaxy S4 announced - tech
(hx) 02:27 PM CET - Mar,15 2013 - Post a comment / read (7)
  • Samsung's Galaxy S4 Packs Advanced Camera & Gesture Features - Samsung today announced the Galaxy S 4, its flagship smartphone for 2013. The S 4 builds on the foundation laid by the S 3 and features a similar design and appearance. It is made from a mix of plastics, polycarbonate, and glass. The footprint is slightly narrower and thinner than the S 3, but the S 4 houses a larger, 5-inch 1080p HD Super AMOLED display. The S 4 runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with Samsung's customary TouchWiz user interface.
  • Vengeance Extreme = World's Fastest Rated PC Memory Kits - Corsair today announced new Vengeance Extreme 8GB dual-channel DDR3 memory kits rated at 3000MHz, the world's fastest rated production PC memory kits. Fitted with low profile "racing red" heat spreaders, the new 2x4GB memory kits operate at 3000MHz air-cooled, with latency settings of 12-14-14-36, at 1.65V. A Kingpin Cooling memory cooler is included for overclockers who want to use LN2 (liquid nitrogen) to reach memory speeds well beyond 3000MHz.
  • Plextor's NGFF SSD promises 700MB/s throughput -
Plextor has shown a number of new products at the CeBIT conference. Among these introductions are 2.5-inch SSDs with TLC memory chips and NGFF solid-state drive modules. The 2.5-inch SSDs have a SATA 6 Gbit/s interface, come in capacities of 128 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB and are powered by Marvell's 88SS9189 controller. A 4K random read performance of 80,000 IOPS is claimed, while writing of these files can purportedly be done at 72,000 IOPS. Plextor is currently working on optimizing the firmware to improve the performance and reliability to the level of MLC SSDs.
  • Glasses-wearers can't wear Google Glass - As it turns out, people who currently wear glasses as part of every day life can't use Google Glass, due to the technical design only accounting for people with regular vision. CNET sent a message to Google's Jay Nancarrow asking whether current spec-wearers could use Google Glass, and received a response saying that there is currently no solution for people who require glasses. However, there is good news for the significant portion of the population who have to wear glasses, as Nancarrow mentioned that Google are "preparing additional models that are designed to work for people who require prescription lenses". While the company doesn't have a time frame for the release of these models, it will allow more people access to Google Glass when it becomes available. For those of you with regular vision or contact lenses, which should work with Google Glass, the system should be available for purchase before the end of the year for around $1,500. Google Glass overlays information directly into your regular field-of-vision, and could be the "next big thing" as far as life-enhancement tools go.

  • Google Just Killed Google Reader - Journalists and geeks united in exasperation on Wednesday evening when Google made a very sad announcement: The company is shuttering Google Reader. We should've seen this coming. And those that didn't see the inevitable death of Google's RSS feed organizer and reader might've easily missed the news, since Google buried it halfway down an official blog post about a bunch of other stuff. But it is true. The search giant will pronounce Reader dead on July 1, 2013. Based on the somewhat storied history of Google killing Reader features, though, we're pretty sure someone will start working on an alternative within the next few hours. The shuttering of Reader is sure to bring even more people out of the woodwork. Twitter, for one, is furious. Twitter is also, arguably, the reason that Google Reader will no longer exist. I'm pretty sure things will calm down once everyone realizes that Google Reader is not the only RSS feed in the world.
  • Digg is building their own version of Google Reader - Digg's implementation will take the best elements of Google's offering (including its API) and advance them to fit the Internet of 2013. The site notes that networks and communities like Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Reddit and Hacker News are all great destinations to find what's interesting on the web but are often overwhelming.  According to a post on Digg's official blog, the company was planning to build their own reader later this year but given Google's recent announcement, they have moved the project to the top of their priority list. They are confident they can come up with a worthy successor but in order to pull it off in such a small window, they will need some help. Digg is asking their readers for input on what they want to see in a reader. They want to know what problems it should solve for you, what's useful and what isn't and what you wish Google Reader could do that isn't already possible today.
  • Google Launches 'Help For Hacked Sites' - Every day, cybercriminals compromise thousands of websites.
  • Chromium code suggests Google Now coming to the PC - TechCrunch reports that the latest Chromium browser build contains references to Google Now. You can't do anything with it yet-Google Now needs to be fed by a server, whose address apparently remains a secret-but the option exists to enable or disable the feature. Chrome recently gained notification support, so the only thing it's missing for a full Google Now implementation is voice-based search. That feature is already available for Chrome as a separate add-on.

  • How To Make $10 Million On YouTube - In January, the same month that Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla's YouTube channel Smosh passed Ray William Johnson's to become the most popular channel on YouTube, Forbes estimated the brand brought in $10 million in revenue the previous year. They did it by thinking of YouTube itself as channel, carrying fans to their website, Smosh.com, where the real money comes in through display ads and merchandise sales.
  • A Higgs Boson Has Been Found - The big brains at CERN claim to have found a new particle that is "a Higgs boson." Quick, everyone get excited...so we can all wait until 2015 to find out if it is or not.
  • Terminator Arm Doing Everyday Tasks  - Nigel Ackland, 53, was fitted with the Terminator-like carbon fibre mechanical hand which he can control with movements in his upper arm in November last year. The bebionic3 myoelectric (double corr) hand, which is also made from aluminium and alloy knuckles, moves like a real human limb by responding to Nigel's muscle twitches. Incredibly, the robotic arm is so sensitive it means Nigel can touch type on a computer keyboard, peel vegetables, and even dress himself for the first time in six years.
  • Jorge Mario Bergoglio Elected Pope - For those of you who missed this news two days ago, Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Argentina was elected pope on Wednesday to lead the Roman Catholic Church, a prelate announced to huge crowds gathered in St. Peter's Square. He took the name Pope Francis, the cardinal said.

  • Game of Thrones - 1995 Style - Following in the footsteps of Xena: Warrior Princess and Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Game of Thrones originally aired on HBO in 1995. It was cancelled. All that remains is the intro. Enjoy!
  • Kick-Ass 2 Official Teaser Trailer - Kick-Ass, Hit Girl, and Red Mist a.k.a. the Mother F*#ker are joined by Colonel Stars (Jim Carrey) and others in the NSFW first look at the red-band trailer for "Kick-Ass 2," the follow-up to the ultra-violent, ultra-bratty Mark Millar adaptation and MTV has the exclusive premiere! "Kick-Ass 2" starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Chloë Grace Moretz,Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Jim Carrey, and Lyndsy Fonseca is in theaters August 16, 2013.
  • Mountain climber's scary fall caught on video - A British mountain climber with a helmet-mounted camera took a terrifying fall after being hit by a hurtling chunk of ice. He was attempting to scale Snowdon in north Wales, one of the U.K.'s highest peaks. Mark Roberts, 47, a lifelong mountain climber, was climbing Snowdon last month when the falling ice caused him to tumble more than 100 feet down a gully. He came to a stop on a ledge. Roberts, who suffered a broken ankle and bruises, somehow escaped without serious injury - and without screaming.

I hope they're aware that most likely 90% of people who would be interrested in google glass is wearing spectacles(nerds).

I can't think of an actual use for them even in porn. It's cool they're able to do it but it's a dead product and won't ever be anything popular beyond google fanboys.

Do that at CLK7, lol. I'll give you the "fastest" title then.

Speed sounds almost too good to be true.
Sizes on the contrary are still small... I'd prefer 1TB for a system disk. Apps are getting bigger and bitter...

That's only part of the challenges they'll have to face, probably one of the smaller ones.

Chill out man ;) Get well soon!

PS. There are google fans? Why? I mean it's just silly. Do they wear "I'm feeling lucky" T-shirts?
Also, in last gglasses review that I saw, google said they are looking into several manufacturers that could provide corrective glasses but I doubt that will happen. Most likely we are going to see a gadget that you can attach to your existing glasses.

Which means it will fall off once, twice, and then all time time -> useless.
