(hx) 02:28 PM EST - Dec,05 2003 - Post a comment / read (6)
As promised, XMP (Expanded Multiplayer) demo for Unreal II: The Awakening has been released, allowing you to test out this multiplayer expansion to the originally single-player only firt-person shooter by Legend Studios. This demo contains the XMP-Garden map and two of the three new vehicles. For more info about the expansion, you can also check this earlier XMP preview @ BeyondUnreal. The demo is a 143MB download, available on WorthPlaying, 3DGamers, Tiscali Games, FileShack, FileFront, GameSpotDLX, FileRush, GameTab, IGN, HappyPuppy, FilePlanet, BeyondUnreal, LoadedInc.
This demo is a single level from Unreal II XMP ('Expanded Multiplayer'). The all new XMP mode is a class-based multiplayer game where teams use vehicles, cooperation and Unreal II: The Awakening's devastating weaponry to battle it out across large-scale terrain maps. Teams fight for control of energy sources to power their war machines, deployment points to get to the front lines quickly, and ultimately, four artifacts that are required to win each match."

the real question -- is it any good? worth the d/load?

So far the reaction has been pretty positive - IF you can find a place to play. We're in desperate need of more dedicated servers, but if you can get a spot on a good server, the game is a total blast. Pretty much everyone i've talked to so far has liked it a lot. Well worth 150mb IMO :)

Noticed something interested in that demo: though the map is bigger than maps in SP Unreal2, it still works MUCH better now! Maybe some code optimisation took place? About time i say, SP U2 got too high system reqs for what it delivers. I realy hope that the SP part of SE U2 will improve the preformance too -- in that case i may take back some of the harsh words i said about it half year ago ;) BTW -- that XMP is realy a blast, great new ideas, complicated but no too much, simply fun! Imo it was supposed to come out with the original -- the game would get much better reviews.
