New York Race Demo - demo
(hx) 08:12 PM EST - Nov,01 2001 - Post a comment / read (3)
Our friends at Games.Tiscali has premiere download of NY Race (New York Race) demo from Kalisto and Wanadoo, which was originally included on latest (December) issue of PC Gamer UK. Full version of New York Race is due out November 16th (Europe) and November 30th (U.S.) The demo weighs 88 MB and is available for download from two fast EuroMirrors and 3DGamers.
"There are more than 30 high-tech flying machines to choose and pilot (including the notorious Taxi and the cool police car from The Fifth Element) each with its own special characteristics: Speed capacity, manoeuvrability and bodywork. Hurtle around 12 totally original non-linear circuits discovering new ways to re-fuel mid flight, take shortcuts to get ahead of other racers and dodge numerous obstacles, both fixed and moving on your way to being champion! Forget the rules of the road, winning is all that counts."

The inability to specify user-defined controls, freedom of navigation blocked by 'magical' force fields, pastel environment as strikingly over-blended as Episode 1 Racer, cheesy colored trails, the lack of extra special effects, a vehicle that controls like an airbourne bus, not to mention complete lack of playability makes this demo my all-time favorite...deleted program. Truthfully, it was the Fifth Element franchise that attracted me to t his demo, and, admittedly, a few of the screenshots. The only jollies I got out of this one was during my frequent stops to a peek at the billboards. I will wait until the folks who were responsible for the Midtown Madness franchise take this project up and DO something interesting with it. In case I didn't get my point across, disregard this insanely large download as you would the ghost of Blizzard's 'Lord of the Clans,' or Grolier's seemingly cancelled 'Dragonriders of Pern.'

yeah, I couldnt even figure out how to get it to do something other than software rendering, sluggish graphics.
